On Nov. 29, Western Kentucky University received its first chapter of SALUTE, a national honor society for student veterans. The seven charter members inducted included WKU student veterans: Brian G. Beshears, Derrick A. Huff, Teresa K. Jameson, Gerald W. Nichols, Wyatt M. Southerland, William J. Williford and LaTarrah Burton.
SALUTE is the only national honor society for veterans in the U.S. Founded at Colorado State University in 2009, SALUTE now has over 200 chapters throughout the U.S. To qualify for membership, a student must be an active duty military member, guardsman, reservist or veteran with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for undergraduates or 3.5 for graduate students.
“It is a great honor for WKU to have a prestigious group like SALUTE on our campus,” said Veterans Upward Bound counselor Rick Wright. “It gives us another opportunity to recognize the best and brightest student veterans at WKU.”
